I think a little gypsy magic would do me good right about now. :)
I think a racist slur would do me good right about now
Fixed that for you
Fucking Pagans and new agers.
Just fuckjaskdjfhaskdjfhhow is “gypsy” a racist slur!? over-sensitive much! hahaha you have to call a cat a cat and not a dog!
Oh no you did fucking not.
Why gypsies are not the magical whimsical beings you think they are
You are lying about the Rroma and other wanderers commonly called gypsies by pretending they’re this Disney version you’re so used to.
You’re not using the term correctly. You’re romanticizing real people, completely ignoring their struggles and with absolutely no knowledge of their history.
Which gypsies were you talking about? The Rromani people? The Dom people? The Banjara, Irish travellers, or the Yeniche people? Do you know the difference between these groups?
Have you learned anything about the gypsies? Or are you just using this word without any knowledge of its past, the hate that is behind it, and the racism these people have faced?
I do know gypsies aren’t the romanticised Disney portrayal. There was a documentary on the BBC called “My big fat gypsy wedding”. This documentary took us behind the scenes of the Romani and the Irish Travellers of Britain. Not only did it focus on the wedding/finding a partner of the people but also the real life struggles they face day to day because of not being welcome where ever they decide to go/settle.
I probably don’t know as much as you do about them, but i wouldn’t say i’m ignorant. I would appreciate if you could enlighten me about why “gypsy” is a racial slur, i understand if it was gypo or pike, but to my knowledge Gypsy is acceptable.
United States
Law enforcement agencies in the United States hold regular conferences[81] on the Romani people and similar nomadic groups. It is common to refer to the operators of certain types of travelling con artists[82] and fortune-telling[83] businesses as “gypsies,” as the term in the United States has come to designate any peoples with a nomadic lifestyle rather than a specific ethnic group. Additionally, a common derogatory phrase in the US is to “be gypped,” as in “I was gypped” or “he gypped me,” meaning that someone executed a bad deal or took money that he was not entitled to take.
Either you’re using the term gypsy to clump together different nomadic groups to romanticize them (which is racist!) or you’re using it to call someone a dirty thieving gypsy. The OP was doing the former. Both are racist.
Reblogging for commentary because srsly peeps need to stop using the word “gypsy”
